Meet Emily
Emily Henley is a Licensed Professional Counselor who enjoys helping children, adolescents, and adults. She earned her graduate degree in Community Counseling at the College of William and Mary, and her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the George Washington University. She has provided therapeutic treatment in a variety of settings, including in-home foster care, community mental health centers, alternative and traditional schools, and private practice.
Emily works with clients struggling with diverse diagnoses, including Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. She is particularly passionate about helping children and adolescents with issues of self-esteem, childhood trauma, divorce and remarriage, parent-child connection, codependency, adoption, and foster care. Emily collaborates well with parents to discover healthy parenting strategies that work for their individual family dynamics.
Emily also specializes in treating trauma of all types across the age span. She is trained to utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which is an evidenced-based method proven to significantly reduce the effects of trauma and many other mental health problems. Emily aligns with cognitive-behavioral, trauma-informed, and strengths-based therapeutic perspectives. She enjoys integrating creativity, play, and faith in the therapeutic process. She partners with her therapy dog (in training), Shortbread the poodle, when appropriate to assist clients with emotional regulation.
