Meet Mary
Hi, my name is Mary Kashaa and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am a passionate mental health advocate and educator. I enjoy being able to do both while also walking alongside others as they take steps towards healing and recovery. Therapy is something that has personally changed my life and helped me to navigate through some challenging times that I’ve faced. I am a firm believer that we all have the ability to truly change the trajectory of our lives and have a life worth living!
My professional journey began in the lovely plains of Auburn, AL where I received my B.A. in Psychology and later my M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University (WAR EAGLE!). I have since moved back to my hometown of Birmingham, AL to be close to my family and my community and I am eager to serve the people of this city!
I enjoy expression through the arts of music, dance, and poetry. During my down time you can find me at an art or poetry show or enjoying music from a live band. I also enjoy traveling, all things coffee, and a good Netflix series!
My Approach
Sometimes navigating life gets difficult when we are overwhelmed with stress, anxiety, depression, or addiction. Sometimes we can feel stuck and feel far from who we are, our values, identity, and sense of self. I believe that therapy has the power to help us uncover the root of our pain and remove the weight of negative life patterns that have held us down. In therapy, I utilize a person-centered approach in addition to cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques. I am a firm believer that when we are met with compassion, non-judgement, and therapeutic support, change is possible!
I have experience working in treatment and in outpatient settings. I specialize in working with people who struggle with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, and addiction.
If you are interested in taking the next step in your healing or recovery journey, please reach out for more information. I look forward to connecting with you!
