Meet Kayla
Hello! My name is Kayla Tibbs and I started my journey to becoming a therapist when I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Alabama. I then spent five years in the mental health field working as a psychometrist before I went on to become a counselor. Since earning my M.Ed at the University of Montevallo, I have helped individuals who have struggled with a multitude of issues. The primary areas that I have found to be focus points with my clients are anxiety, depression, anxiety, family dynamics and patterns of unwanted behaviors.
I am a Christian, a wife, and a mother. These roles in my life have informed my work as a therapist and enabled me to become the best therapist I can be. However, I know that learning is a lifetime pursuit, so I am constantly seeking ways to improve as a counselor by furthering my education, continuing training, and following current research.
My Approach
Because I know that the relationship between a client and their therapist is a key indicator of success in therapy, I commit to showing up as my authentic self in each session so that we can build a genuine therapeutic relationship where you are enabled to be yourself and take steps towards your goals. I believe that the first step to meeting those goals is by creating a desire to change. If you are reading this then congratulations- you have likely already taken the first step in your journey to growth.
I am passionate about helping individuals create healthy relationships, find purpose, rewrite the narrative of their story, and heal from anxiety and depression. Every life holds value and I hope to help you realize yours. I want to partner with you in reaching your goals and creating a healthy life that is full of joy and passion. To do this, I take an individualized approach to my client’s needs with my primary methods being grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy. I am also pursuing credentialing in the Gottman Method to further support the couples that I work with. You are not alone. I cannot wait to work with you.
